Melanie Stryder refuses to fade away. The Earth has been invaded by a species that takes over the minds of their human hosts while leaving their bodies intact, and most of humanity has succumbed.
Wanderer, or Wanda, the invading soul as they are called, is given Melanie's body to retrieve information from. And though she knows of the difficulties of living inside a human, nothing could prepare her for the consequences.
I absolutely loved the Twilight Saga, and while they are not the best written books, the world and feelings that Meyer creates more than makes up for it. The Host is no exception. This book captivated me from the word go. Wanda is a good view in which to see the world as it has become. She is best once she reaches the humans in hiding from the invading souls.
Of course I emphasied with the humans for the most part. Who would want to have your body taken over and their mind just disappear. Nobody. But the world that the souls create is so much better than the one we have. No violence, no hate, no idiots to create all of this. You can see why the souls saw earth as a good place to take over. Because we are destroying it. Anyway, back to the story. As much as I liked Wanda as a character, I liked Melanie more and when she and Wanda were talking in their head, were some of the best bits. The characters and scenes are really easy to picture and Uncle Jeb was a favourite of mine. He actually trusted and wanted to get to know Wanda.
All in all, this is extremely good. I would definatly recommend it to my friends. This book isnt really Sci-fi. Its a look at what it means to be human, what we are as a species, and ultimatly a love story.
